10 amazing photos climbing Pedraforca peak – Pyrenees
Pedraforca peak (2,505 m) is one of the most attractive mountains in Catalonia, an also one of the most famous for mountaineering. It is located into the Cadi Moixero natural park, in one of the most emblematic parts of the Catalan Pyrenees, the High Bergueda (read more about this county here), with a great biological wealth within a unique geological context.
Pedraforca peak: eastern face
Pedraforca peak is easily identified by its abrupt and spectacular landscape as well as by its two-summit shape which reminds us a fork.
The north face is a hazardous yet beautiful spot for rock-climbing, with a sheer drop of 600-800 m over the Gresolet valley, where you can find one of the most interesting woodlands of this natural area; its microclimate is particularly dump so it is mostly populated by silver fir and beech trees.
The height of the massif means two different climatic zones:
Precipitation is concentrated mainly in the summer months, with annual averages of over 1,100m. There’s not a great deal of snow, although the peaks are snow-covered during the winter, with ice on the north face slopes.
