10 amazing photos climbing Puigmal – Pyrenees
Puigmal (2,913m) is the highest peak of the Nuria valley, on the crest line between France and Catalonia. Although it does not have an especially striking summit and is not particularly attractive to look at, it attracts many mountaineers because it has far-reaching panoramic views.
Puigmal is located in Val de Núria, in the Catalan Pyrenees.

But Puigmal enjoys much respect due to the famous and dangerous wind of this area, named the ‘Torb’. In winter conditions, this wind reaches more than 100km/h and has been the cause of most of the mountaineering deaths in this area, because it whips up the snow and you see nothing, losing your bearings and the heat of your body very quickly.
The Nuria valley is located in the Ripolles, a region of Catalonia between High Bergueda – La Cerdanya and La Garrotxa.
As well as reaching the Puigmal summit, if you follow the crest and descend to Nuria sanctuary by Finestrelles pass, you can reach Pic del Segre summit and Puigmal de Llo summit, the latest in France.
